Every year on International Women’s Day, many people take time to celebrate women and the important roles they play in our lives. But if we really think about it, women should not only be celebrated on this one day. Women deserve to be celebrated every day.

But while in the spirit of celebration, we should always remember that women are powerful people, they contribute greatly in the workplaces, businesses, families, and communities. Their strength, care, and dedication shape many parts of our lives. One of the places where their impact is strongly felt is in our homes — especially in the kitchen. For most of us, we see food beyond something we eat to survive. We see food as a way of showing love, care, and connection. And in many homes, women are the ones who bring that love to life through the meals they prepare.

We can say that cooking is one of the ways women express care for the people around them. Through food, they create memories, bring families together, and keep traditions alive.

Let’s talk about those ways women have been able to shape our lives through food.

How Women Shape Our Lives Through Food

  1. Women Are Often the First People Who Teach Us to Cook

For many of us, the first person who taught us how to cook was a woman. It may have been our mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, or even a friend. They are the ones who showed us how to prepare certain dishes the right way and also taught us simple things like:

  • How to cut vegetables properly
  • How to wash ingredients before cooking
  • How to stir the pot so food does not burn
  • How to know when food is ready etc.

These lessons may seem small, but they stay with us for life. Apart from learning how to cook, these moments also create beautiful memories. Many people remember standing in the kitchen with their mothers or grandmothers, talking, laughing, tasting food from the pot, and sometimes even making mistakes together. Those moments become memories we carry with us for years.

2. Women Keep Food Traditions Alive

Many dishes we eat today have been passed down for generations. These recipes were taught by women and shared from mothers to daughters and from grandmothers to grandchildren. Sometimes these recipes are not even written down. People simply learn them by watching and helping in the kitchen. Over time, these recipes continue to live on.

3. Turning the Love for Cooking into OpportunityWomen in the kitchen

Today, many women are also turning their passion for cooking into business opportunities. You can find women working in many parts of the food industry such as:

  • Catering services (Chefs)
  • Homemade meal businesses
  • Food delivery services
  • Selling food ingredients
  • Food blogging and content creation

For many women, cooking has become a way to support their families and build successful businesses. This shows that something as simple as cooking in your kitchen can grow into something bigger.

Personally, my love for cooking is what inspired this blog. Through this platform, I share my love for food and experience with others.

Conclusion

On this International Women’s Day, it is important to appreciate the women who have taught us, guided us, and shared their knowledge with us both in the kitchen and beyond. The meals women prepare are not just about food.

They show care

They show love.

That is why when your mother notices you have not eaten, she quickly goes to the kitchen to prepare something for you. She is not doing it only because you need food — she is doing it because she cares. So today, as we enjoy our meals, let us remember the women behind the recipes. Their work may seem simple, but the truth is that it has a lasting impact. So today we celebrate every amazing woman.

Happy International Women’s Day to all the strong, kind, hardworking women out there. You are appreciated, you are loved, and you deserve to be celebrated every day.
