Oats Puff Puff

Ingredients

  • 2 cups rolled oats blended into flour
  • 1/2 cup powdered milk
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • Sugar optional
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Method

  1. our your rolled oats into a blender and blend until it becomes a fine powder, about 30 seconds to a minute, until it looks like flour.
  2. Pour the oat flour into a bowl and add the yeast, salt, powdered milk, and nutmeg. Mix well before adding any liquid so everything spreads evenly.
  3. Add the warm water little by little, stirring as you go, until you get a batter that's thick but not stiff or watery. Be careful not to use water that's too hot, as it can kill the yeast.
  4. Cover and set aside for 10 to 15 minutes, somewhere warm, until the batter looks slightly puffy.
  5. Heat your oil on medium heat. Test with a small drop of batter — if it sizzles gently and rises, the oil is ready. Wet your palm lightly with water, scoop small amounts of batter, and gently drop them into the hot oil, shaping them into rounds as you go.
  6. Once golden brown on both sides, lift the puff puff onto a sieve or paper towel to drain excess oil. Serve hot.
